President Joe Biden has called for an independent review of the incident to determine how the gunman managed to get so close to Trump despite extensive security measures. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle defended the agency’s response, highlighting the swift actions of agents on the ground who neutralized the shooter and protected the former president.
Crooks, a nursing home aide from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was described by those who knew him as a quiet and respectful individual with no known political inclinations. The FBI confirmed that his social media profiles contained no threatening language and that he had no history of mental health issues. They believe he acted alone.
The shooting has cast a shadow over Trump’s campaign as he prepares for the upcoming election. Trump, reflecting on the incident, acknowledged the close call and expressed a desire to unite the country, despite recognizing the deep divisions among Americans.
On the day of the attack, Crooks managed to access a rooftop 150 yards from the stage where Trump was speaking.
