OpenAI has announced a delay in the release of its anticipated “Voice Mode” feature for ChatGPT, pushing the launch from late June to July due to technical issues.
Originally slated for a limited release to ChatGPT Plus users in June, the company cited the need for additional time to meet its launch standards. “We are enhancing the model’s ability to detect and refuse certain content, improving user experience, and preparing our infrastructure to handle millions of users while maintaining real-time responses,” OpenAI shared on social media platform X.
The “Voice Mode” feature will initially be available to a select group of users for feedback before being rolled out to all Plus users in the fall, pending safety and reliability checks. Additionally, OpenAI is developing new video and screen-sharing capabilities.
In May, OpenAI revealed plans to introduce a new AI model called GPT-4o, which will support realistic voice conversations and interactions across text and images, marking a significant step forward in the AI technology landscape. The new audio features will allow users to speak to ChatGPT and receive real-time responses, including the ability to interrupt the AI mid-conversation, enhancing the realism of interactions with the voice assistant.
